The cloaks bring comfort to the family that is grieving. If another person dies, the cloaks move again. Sharing and love. Even though they aren’t blood related, everyone is considered whānau.


7. How does the design of the whakairo show the importance of the environment to Maori communities and culture?

Used waves to represent the springs (water) where they drank from, bathed in and washed their clothes.
